Hector Egger was engaged at early concept stage by their client/Architect to offer early input into the DFMA (Design for Manufacture & Assembly) process on a challenging lake front site in Queenstown. Understanding the limitations of access and site topography meant the building could be designed and manufactured in a suitably sized ‘kit of parts’, allowing for a fast and efficient install by the Hector Egger installation team. Constructed in two phases, the main house and guest wing were weathertight within a week, condensing the build program by allowing the internal and external sub-trades to commence work at the same time.

Offsite manufacturing and prefabrication are terms that mean different things to different people and often evoke thoughts of limited design possibilities and boxlike structures.
